Peak Ready:
A Guide to Peak Oil Preparedness
This site is focused on peak oil readiness and preparation.
For the latest information and updates, please check the Peak Ready Blog
If you are unfamiliar with the phrase "peak oil", or the concept behind it, have a look at the links under What is Peak Oil? below for some excellent overviews. Since it has been so well documented by others, I won't elaborate on the topic here, except to say that many very intelligent people have looked at this problem carefully, and come away frightened, and without any easy answers. Just read the quotes to the right an you'll see what I mean.
What I am trying to do with this site is consolidate information on how to prepare for a life without cheap oil. I am not attempting to create an extensive repository of every available book, website, and tool out there. I hope to find just a few resources for a given topic. I will try to pick the best of the best, as best I can. The "best" may mean the cheapest, most efficient, highest quality, or least resource-intensive. It'll depend on the topic, and I'll have to make lots of judgement calls. Feel free to send me your feedback and suggestions. I'm particularly interested in free or low cost options.
There are a lot of books here. Many are good referenes to have on hand, but you needn't own them all. This site does make a tiny commission on some of these items, but I'd encourage you to take advantage of your local library (unless you just want to show your support for this site).
I don't have all the answers. I just have some starting points, suggestions, and ideas. I have not used or read every item here. If I don't have direct experience, I try to find consensus views by way of discussion groups, product reviews and my own research. This is a work in progress. And yes, it is very U.S.-centric.
It's up to you to decide whether or how to proceed. Remember, I'm not an expert, I'm just some guy with a web site...
